A must read for those who loved their fairytales as a kid but are ready for them to be a little more adult!
·
Uncloaked – Wendy Owens
A thrilling take on Little Red Riding Hood. I loved the
characters and would love to see more of their world!
·
Blayze & Ash – Jessica Sorenson
The story was beautiful and romantic. I didn’t care for Ash
through most of the story but by the end I think I liked him better.
·
The Little Mermaid – K.R. Wilburn
I have to say, The Little Mermaid is my favorite Fairytale
and retellings leave me a bit nervous and usually unimpressed. K.R. Wilburn’s
Little Mermaid was absolutely powerful and moving. I had all kinds of feels as
I read it. I had to stop reading the book at the end just to write down my
thoughts and process this amazing story!
·
Dance with Me – Trish Thawer
This was fun. I
didn’t know much about The Twelve Dancing Princesses but after this story I
really need to get to know it.
·
Awakened – Kristen Strassel
This story was just
fantastic, a rebellious Sleeping Beauty and the fairies are selfish. It is definitely a far cry from the original
but oh so good.
·
Priceless – Sarah J Pepper
Seeing as how I love fairytales with a twist I am aware of
Sarah J Pepper! Priceless was definitely a new twist on Rumpelstiltskin. This story is beyond words, it deserves 5 to
be a book all on its own. I was on the
edge of my seat the entire story and couldn’t even begin to guess at how it
would end. Loved it!!
·
The Snow Queen – Shannon Morton
OMGosh! What words can I find to describe this story? It was
clinically creepy and inspiring. It was very smartly written and the end left
me chilled!
·
Caged – L.P. Dover
Caged is a twist of Rapunzel. I was shocked at the twist and
pretty much reading the story wide eyed and talking to myself. Loved it, this
would be a great story to lengthen!
I admit, the only story of Puss in Boots I know is from the
Shrek movies. This version was definitely sexy and intriguing!
·
Rell – Amy Daws
I went between gritting my teeth in anger and annoyance and
weeping with sadness and joy, this modern day Cinderella story was perfectly
written.
·
Casting Crowns and Other Curious Things –
Elizabeth Montgomery
This was, in my opinion, a perfect retelling of Alice in
Wonderland! It stays true to the basic theme but like the movie, this story
shows a new Alice. A strong Alice who will win out the day and save
Wonderland. This was the first story I
read in the collection and it set an amazing tone!
·
Hansel & Gretel – Cameo Renae
Wow, wow, wow! This is Cameo Renae in a new light! Hansel
and Gretel is set in the After Light Saga world and I loved every second of it!
It was scary, thrilling, and so good!
·
Real Boy – Kellie Sheridan
Pinocchio in the future.
I will always think of this story and i,Robot when companies start
making robots for the home. Totally creeptastic! I was left wanting more!
·
Jaclyn and the Beanstalk – M. Clarke
“Some of them are a bit dark, some are slightly twisted, and some just take the story to a whole new magical level.. Each author has brought a different perspective to an old tale and it was very enjoyable.” ~ Goodreads Reviewers
“Fairy Tales that take a dark modern twist.” ~ Sassy Cats Book Review
