A must read for those who loved their fairytales as a kid but are ready for them to be a little more adult!
·         Uncloaked – Wendy Owens
A thrilling take on Little Red Riding Hood. I loved the characters and would love to see more of their world!
·         Blayze & Ash – Jessica Sorenson
The story was beautiful and romantic. I didn’t care for Ash through most of the story but by the end I think I liked him better.
·         The Little Mermaid – K.R. Wilburn
I have to say, The Little Mermaid is my favorite Fairytale and retellings leave me a bit nervous and usually unimpressed. K.R. Wilburn’s Little Mermaid was absolutely powerful and moving. I had all kinds of feels as I read it. I had to stop reading the book at the end just to write down my thoughts and process this amazing story!
·         Dance with Me – Trish Thawer
This was fun.  I didn’t know much about The Twelve Dancing Princesses but after this story I really need to get to know it.
·         Awakened – Kristen Strassel
This story was just  fantastic, a rebellious Sleeping Beauty and the fairies are selfish.  It is definitely a far cry from the original but oh so good.
·         Priceless – Sarah J Pepper
Seeing as how I love fairytales with a twist I am aware of Sarah J Pepper! Priceless was definitely a new twist on Rumpelstiltskin.  This story is beyond words, it deserves 5 to be a book all on its own.  I was on the edge of my seat the entire story and couldn’t even begin to guess at how it would end. Loved it!!
·         The Snow Queen – Shannon Morton
OMGosh! What words can I find to describe this story? It was clinically creepy and inspiring. It was very smartly written and the end left me chilled!
·         Caged – L.P. Dover
Caged is a twist of Rapunzel. I was shocked at the twist and pretty much reading the story wide eyed and talking to myself. Loved it, this would be a great story to lengthen!
 ·         Puss in Boots – Brynn Meyers
I admit, the only story of Puss in Boots I know is from the Shrek movies. This version was definitely sexy and intriguing!
·         Rell – Amy Daws
I went between gritting my teeth in anger and annoyance and weeping with sadness and joy, this modern day Cinderella story was perfectly written.
·         Casting Crowns and Other Curious Things – Elizabeth Montgomery
This was, in my opinion, a perfect retelling of Alice in Wonderland! It stays true to the basic theme but like the movie, this story shows a new Alice. A strong Alice who will win out the day and save Wonderland.  This was the first story I read in the collection and it set an amazing tone!
·         Hansel & Gretel – Cameo Renae
Wow, wow, wow! This is Cameo Renae in a new light! Hansel and Gretel is set in the After Light Saga world and I loved every second of it! It was scary, thrilling, and so good!
·         Real Boy – Kellie Sheridan
Pinocchio in the future.  I will always think of this story and i,Robot when companies start making robots for the home. Totally creeptastic! I was left wanting more!
·         Jaclyn and the Beanstalk – M. Clarke

“Some of them are a bit dark, some are slightly twisted, and some just take the story to a whole new magical level.. Each author has brought a different perspective to an old tale and it was very enjoyable.” ~ Goodreads Reviewers
“Fairy Tales that take a dark modern twist.” ~ Sassy Cats Book Review

Author Bio
Hi! I'm an author from the Midwestern United States. I'm an avid reader of anything romance! I've worked as a travel agent, nursing assistant, and a paralegal before chasing my dream of full-time writing. I love to travel, swim, cook, and I'm more than a little addicted to a certain social media website...
Currently, I write paranormal and science-fiction romance. My plan is to branch out in several romance sub-genres, but my books will always end in the infamous Happily Ever After.
Always hot, always sexy, my male characters will protect their women at all costs, and my female characters will be...I like to call it "feisty." I believe every story and character should be unique, and it's something I always strive to do.
Reading should be an escape from everyday life, so I hope you enjoy my version of a vacation for you!

Fun Facts about me:
1. I love birds! I have one (a parakeet).
2. I'm double-jointed, which led to teasing as a kid (which I also found funny)!
3. I have a shoe addiction! Mainly embellished flip-flops, but other kinds too (not heals, I'd break my ankles).
4. I missed a college 4.0 GPA in the very last semester when one professor gave me a B (still upset about that!)!
5. I am very OCD about certain things (see #6).
6. I have an extensive DVD/BluRay collection and it has to be kept in alphabetical order!
7. My favorite vacations involve a cruise. I've been on 15 so far!
8. I'm quiet and sort of shy until I get to know a person.
9. I'm quick witted and believe sarcasm is my best friend.
10. I hate hot weather.

Sherri 2.0 by Rachel Rawlings ~ Review

Joseph thought he created the perfect woman.
The first of her kind. And she was his.
There was just one problem.

Sherri had other plans.

Intelligently futuristic mixed with a pinch of supernatural

I was sucked into this book from the first sentence. With expertly woven suspense and captivating characters, I couldn’t put this story down until I finished.  Don’t let the page count fool you, it was packed with everything that makes a horror book great.

Rachel Rawlings is an author of Urban Fantasy novels. Her first book, The Morrigna, was published in 2010. Witch Huntbook two, followed on 2012. She is currently working on a novella in The Maurin Kincaide Series, Wolfsbane. She currently lives in Maryland with her husband and three children.
I've always been one to pick action over chick flicks and I think I approach writing the same way. I've read and continue to read series that are more leather and lace than bullets and octane because of their Paranormal/Urban Fantasy content but when it came to writing my own series I didn't want my vampires to just bite, I wanted them to kick ass too! The Maurin Kincaide Series are slightly dark, action packed Urban Fantasy novels with a strong female lead.

Excerpt from The Hunter Awakens by J.R. Roper
Mel closed her eyes and drew in long breaths as he passed. A hint of the sorcerer was all she smelled. He was alone.
She waited for him to near the summit, and when he was close she dropped to the ground and approached from well within the forest. When she reached the top, it was clear he’d already begun his conjuring.
The sorcerer stood in the middle of the hilltop, held his staff in front of him and spoke softly in the old tongue. He lifted the staff and slammed it into the ground. The earth groaned.
He looked to the sky. “Reveal.”
Mel followed his gaze. A faint shadow swooped through the clouds and she retreated behind a thick tree. It was the thunderbird—the harbinger of conjured storms.
From his messenger bag, a red orb rose into the air and wisps of wood fastened it to the top of his staff.
Mel glanced above and readied her throwers. She’d put out the thunderbird’s eye if it attacked.
The sorcerer gripped his staff with both hands and pointed the end toward the setting sun, the direction of Roseville. He lowered it slowly and spun, drawing a wide circle where grass shriveled. The smell of scorched earth forced Mel to hold her breath. She hated the smell of anything burnt and the old rock beneath the grass smelled like the burning of ancient bones.
Within moments, clouds rolled overhead. The orb’s red light pierced the early dark. The sorcerer grasped for the sky with his left hand and spoke an incantation that the wind swept away.
The last sliver of sunlight winked out, as if a shawl had been drawn over the sky. A fog chased up the hill like a tidal wave and clouded Mel’s view. The fog moved upward and the sky rippled with a surge of power. All heavenly lights darkened and Mel aimed a thrower in the direction of the sorcerer.
If he knew she was here and came looking for her, it’d be his last act on Earth. She feared no one. She was Hellish Mel.

This book was recommended to me by my 12 year old son. It was on my TBR on my Kindle but hadn’t got to it yet. He read it and told me it was kind of like Harry Potter only better.  I really enjoyed this story and I am completely hooked. The two young Morus children are written perfectly. As a matter of fact I see my own children in them. My daughter is totally like Destry, a pain in the behind to her brother but also fiercely protective.  Ethan didn’t become some superhero in one swoop. I like how he has an open mind and thinks. What a great example for my son to read a realistic middle grade aged boy learn to become a rational thinker amidst a troubling time, where there is so much confusion about right and wrong. Although I will say my favorite character is Hellish Mel. I’m excited to get started on the short stories that center around her! I definitely recommend this to everyone who enjoys Percy Jackson or Harry Potter but it’s also a terrific story to get young boys reading! There is action, adventure, and mystery to keep them interested throughout the book!

Passion Series, Book Six
By J.A. Melville
Cover Reveal

Synopsis

It’s been almost a century since everything changed.

Nearly a century since Francesca lost everyone and everything that night.

Only one person knows, one man saw it all; her sire, her saviour. He pulled her back from death and the brink of insanity.

Only one man truly knows her and Fabian promised he would never reveal the horrors of her past to anyone else.

She’s gone decades hiding her true self behind a mask of indifference; her clothes, her makeup like a costume so no one will see the real her.

It’s worked all these years until him…….

Lucas is the young man turned vampire by accident two years ago. He is the vampire with a heart and soul. He’s also an empath. He can feel what others are feeling……..

Something about him triggers flashbacks to Francesca’s past and her sleep is plagued by horrific nightmares.

Her screams wake Lucas and he comes to her, soothing and comforting her. The trouble is Francesca doesn’t want his comfort, she doesn’t want anyone. Anyone she’s ever cared about has been lost to her.

She uses Lucas to help her forget. Sex has always been her coping mechanism. Use them for sex and move on, but something about Lucas keeps drawing her back to him.

The sex is explosive, passionate and intense. The sex helps her forget her past, until afterwards when her resentment towards him makes her turn on him; punishing him physically and with cruel words.

He makes her feel and she doesn’t want to feel.  She doesn’t want to remember. She doesn’t want to feel anything for this man who has been the catalyst for those painful memories to resurface.

It’s unhealthy and dangerous, until one night something happens that changes everything.

Francesca’s past collides with her present and her already fragile state of mind is tested further.

Will it destroy them now everything has changed?

Author Bio

For as long as I can remember, I've loved to write, poetry, short stories just about anything. My English teachers in school kept telling me I should write and it took me a lot of years to finally get around to it.

I spent too long worrying about failing as a writer before I realized that living with the regret of never trying was worse.

I live in a sleepy country town in Tasmania, Australia with my partner and our three children, who aren't so little anymore, plus a whole assortment of animals.

Natasha's Awakening is my first book but I have no intention of stopping now and will continue to live my dream of being a published author. I have just published Taming Eric which is his POV to Natasha's Awakening.

My interests are writing of course, reading, watching movies and hanging out at home with my family, our six cats and one dog.

You can find me on Facebook under my author page J. A Melville and my book's page Natasha's Awakening.
